He was predeceased by: his parents, Gish Arthur and Helen Marie Johnson; and his brother Gish A. Johnson, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Nancy; his children, Gerald Johnson (Carol) and Janice Castro (Bert); his grandchildren, Cassie Richards (Gerard), Kyle Castro, Caitlin Castro and Kamryn Castro; his great grandchild Roman Richards; his sister-in-law Lucia Johnson; his brother William Schnyder; and his sister-in-law Patricia Schnyder. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
