He was predeceased by: his wife Marilou; his son Patrick O'Connell (Debbie); and his brothers, Joseph O'Connell (Ann), Daniel O'Connell, John O'Connell and William O'Connell.

He is survived by: his children, Thomas O'Connell, Eileen Knight (Richard), Kathy McKeone (James) and Michael O'Connell; his grandchildren, Jason O'Connell, Christopher O'Connell (Gina), Lisa O'Connell, Kristin Knight, Lindsay Johnson (Christopher), Amber McKeone (Marcus), Drowns, Shawn McKeone, Caitlin McKeone (Kevon) and Ashley McKeone; his great grandchildren, Madilyn, Cassidy, Teagan, Jaxon, Marcus, Cecilia, Olivia, Sofia, Shawn and Endy; and his sisters, Barbra Shannon (late Jack) and Mary O'Connell. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
