He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank P. Merkle and Leona V. Merkle of Evanston, IL.; and his siblings, F. P. Merkle Jr. (Pete) and Barbara Patteson Hartman (Bobby). He is survived by: his sons, Peter F. Merkle, MD of Deerfield, FL and Patrick G. Merkle.
