Howard J. Sweeney Obituary
We are sad to announce that on March 27, 2021, at the age of 94, Howard J. Sweeney (Evanston, Illinois) passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Edward Sweeney and Stella Sweeney (Cigrand); his wife Kathleen Patricia Power; his daughter-in-law Margy Sweeney of Evanston; his grandchildren, Erin, Edward, Christopher, Matthew, Sean, Timothy, Daniel, Kate, Shannon, Tricia, Megan, Brendan, Taylor, Maura, Nikki, Morgan, Nina, Maddie, Emma, Benjamin and Clare; and his child Mercury.
Attendance will be limited to family to observe pandemic safety at the memorial service at Donnellan Funeral Home.
After his retirement in 2002, he founded the Global Arthroscopy Foundation to connect doctors in sixteen different developing countries with arthroscopic surgery training, mentorship, and supplies. In 2019, when Howard stopped teaching, One World Surgery took on the mission of the Global Arthroscopy Foundation.
