It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Haywood Hughes of Elgin, Illinois, born in Dell, Arkansas, who passed away on October 28, 2024, at the age of 74, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Dora Whaley and Fred Williams; his sisters, Orangelee and Betty Ellis; and his daughter Cassandra Hughes-Hicks.
He is survived by: his children, Haywood Hughes Jr. of Elgin, IL, Dallas of Elgin, IL, Shayla Hughes of Elgin, IL and Brandon Hughes of Elgin, IL; and his siblings, Beatrice Ford of Chicago, IL, Bernice Taylor (DeOtis) of Chicago, IL, Walter "Bubba" Hughes (Barbara) of Elgin, Roosevelt Ellis (Gloria) of Pingree Grove, Rickey Ellis of Elgin and James Ellis of Springfield. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation was held on Saturday, November 9th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Second Baptist Church (1280 Summit St, Elgin, IL 60120). A funeral service was held on Saturday, November 9th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
