It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Thomas E. McDevitt of Effingham, Illinois, who passed away on July 8, 2023, at the age of 88, leaving to mourn family and friends. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas A. McDevitt and Louise McDevitt (Frese); and his son Andy McDevitt. He is survived by: his wife Carole (Frazier); his daughter Julie (Therese Hickey); his grandchildren, Nora and Jose of San Francisco, CA; his child Terry (Karen); his grandchild Maddie of Chatham, IL; his son Matthew (Amy); his grandchildren, Henry, William, Jane of Denver, CO and Tim of Denver; and his brothers, John, Dennis of Effingham and Edward of Naperville.

In lieu of flowers, Tom requested that any memorials be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

“Dear Carol and Family, Please accept my deepest sympathy in the loss of the finest man I have ever known. I met Tom in the 6th grade when he taught me the fundamentals of basketball. More importunately, He taught me to never quit at difficult projects, to always be positive , to be respectful, to be happy and love the life the God gives us. I have been Blessed to have Tom as a mentor and a dear friend. I will miss our visits but know he is in a better place. Sincerely, Pat Fitzsimmons”
