He was predeceased by: his parents, Gerald Began and Gertrude Began (Haumesser); his son Thomas; his granddaughter Heather; and his son-in-law Dave Crye Jr. To.
He is survived by: his wife Catherine Ann Dirks of Effingham; his children, Michael Allen Began (Alison) of Watson, Nancy Ann Huskey (Marty) of Vandalia and Robert Anthony Began (Julie) of Altamont; and his grandchildren, Michael, Maria, David (Brittney), Dustin, Danielle (Skylar), Hannah (Brandon), Tad (Mason) and Craig (Christina). He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be given to the library at Sacred Heart Grade School.
