He was predeceased by: his son Steven Smith; his daughter-in-law Crystal Smith (Larimer); his parents, Henry "Sox" and Eula Smith; and his siblings, Victor Smith (Josephine) and Doris Gulde (Robert).
He is survived by: his wife June Smith of Effingham; his children, David Smith (Marlana) of Dyersburg, TN, Judy Wiethop (Rod) of Effingham, Marilyn Helton (Jim) of Glen Carbon, IL and Margaret Shimkus (Dan) of Columbia, MO; his grandchildren, Aaron Smith, Rachel Carden (James), Dannielle Harden (Kyle), Robbie Kingery (Laynn), Joshua Helton, Jenna Helton, Jamen Helton, Steve Shimkus, Melea Shimkus and Danica Shimkus; his great grandchildren, Juliana, Kalli Harden, Jared, Hannah Helton, Jamison, Cara and Emma Carden; and his brothers, Ron Smith (Chris) of Carlsbad, CA and Norman Smith (Janice) of Walsh, IL. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews; and many friends.
