He was predeceased by: his parents, William W. Nisbet and Marie Nisbet (Ryan); his siblings, William W. "Bill" Nisbet Jr., Mary Ellen Gumbel (Robert) and Carolyn Brown (Jack); his sister-in-law Chloe Nisbet; and his grandson John William Nisbet III.

He is survived by: his wife Illa Mae Cler of Effingham; his children, Doug of Shellman, GA, John Jr. (Hope) of Humboldt, David (Joyce) of St. Joseph, Scott (Shelly) of Effingham, Susan Ellen Mahoney (Randy) of Hersher, Jackie Austin (Mel) of Mattoon and Tracy Nisbet of Effingham; his brother George Nisbet of St. Louis, MO; and his sister-in-law Mary Nisbet of Mendon. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be given to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
