He was predeceased by: his mother Elaine Mitchell (Rentfrow); and his brother Richard A. Mitchell. He is survived by: his father William Sr. Mitchell of Mattoon; and his siblings, William Mitchell Jr. (Sherri) of Charleston, Lisa Deain of Effingham and Lori Wren of Charleston. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
