He was predeceased by: his parents, Allie Kabbes and Agnes Kabbes (Worman); his daughter Mary Agnes; and his siblings, Jack Kabbes and Mary Hoene.

He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Kabbes of Effingham; his children, Sherri Sandschafer (Tony) of Effingham, Lynn Kowalski (Bruce) of Effingham, Kay Spruell (Clint) of Effingham, Jill Williams (Jim) of Effingham, Laura Koester (Ted) of Effingham and Kurt Kabbes (Jenny) of Effingham; his grandchildren, Brent Sandschafer (Holly), Brock Sandschafer (Britney), Ryan Sandschafer, Carrie Bloemer (Luke), Jay Kowalski (Anna), Kory Kowalski, Shelby Dasenbrock (Matt), Chelsey Koester (Jake), Landon, Neil, Seth Williams, Paige, Evan, Lanae Koester, Sophie, Morgan and Tucker Kabbes; his great grandchildren, Cora Dasenbrock, Vayda and Brynn Bloemer; his siblings-in-law, Jane Kabbes, Bob Hoene and Bob Fisher (Norma); and his friend Ralph Seiler.

Due to the increasing cases of COVID-19 in the area, Dick's family has decided to have a private family mass instead of public services.
