We are sad to announce that on July 26, 2023, at the age of 65, Cheryl Merchant of Effingham, Illinois, born in Beloit, Wisconsin passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Harley David Houghton and Joyce Yvonne Houghton (Hovland); her parents-in-law, Paul K. Merchant and Elizabeth J. Merchant (Fuchiek); and her sisters-in-law, Sara Merchant (Daehler) and Rebecca Houghton (Holland).

She is survived by: her family, Chadwick, Dakota and Effingham; her husband Doug; her children, Aaron Merchant of Urbana, IL, Cliff Merchant (Susan Weston) of Avon, Jacqlyn Merchant (Jackie) and Alex Merchant of St. Louis, MO; her siblings, Debby Johnson (Richard) of Robeline, LA, Kris Houghton of Berthoud, CO, Craig Houghton (Renee) of Rock City, IL, Angela Ochoa of Bolingbrook, IL and Scott Houghton (Sherrie) of Golden, CO; her siblings-in-law, Susan Bracken of Ocala, FL, Betsy Myatt (Ron) of Herrin, IL, Patricia Elliott (Jim) of Frederick, MD, Debra Merchant of Mt Carroll, IL, David Merchant of Lanark, IL, Donald Merchant (Mary Woods) of Freeport, IL and Jose Ochoa, Jr. of Batavia, IL; and her stepmother-in-law Virginia Merchant of Bettendorf, IA. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
