She was predeceased by: her parents, John David and Marian B. Mitchell (Wagner); her former husband Ed Crooker; her husband Richard Vail; her son Tom Brasel; her grandson Brandon Schoonover; her great grandchild Simon Tays; her stepdaughter Susan Crooker; and her sister Synda Holmes (Jerry).

She is survived by: her children, Mike Brasel (Kate) of Watson, Illinois, Larissa Smith of Willow Hill, Illinois, Michaela Verdeyen (David) of Effingham and John Loggins (Shirley) of Effingham; and her siblings, Carrel Jaharus (Bob) of Farina, Donna Holt of Kinmundy, Illinois., Kenny Mitchell (Carol) of Farina and Terry Mitchell (Sabrina) of Farina.

In loving memory of Betty, memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital.
