He was predeceased by: his parents, Hiram Stokes and Frances Stokes (Tomlin); his sister Margaret A. Stokes; and his son Walter "Butch" Stokes Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Barbara J. Stokes (Jiannoni); and his daughter Betty Jo Stokes.
