He was predeceased by: his parents, Verne Schaffner and Jean Watson Schaffner; and his sister Shirley Schaffner. He is survived by: his wife Dianne Caldwell; his sons, Chris Schaffner (Trudy) of Delavan, IL and Scott Schaffner (Beth) of Royal, IA; his stepchildren, Jeff Kuykendall of Roanoke, IL, Tim Kuykendall (Tina) of Washington, IL, Terry Kuykendall (Jackie) of Greensburg, PA and Amy Taylor of Morton, IL.; his grandchildren, Blake, Charley, Claire, Chloe, Jacob, Noah, Kenzie and Drew; his great grandchild Willow Jean; his stepgrandchildren, Michael, Jeffrey, Taylor and Austin; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Cohen, Asher, Cora and Theodore; and his sister Patti Schaffner of Chillicothe.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
