He was predeceased by: his parents, Cyrinus Schmidt and Loretta Melcher Schmidt; and his siblings, Don Schmidt and Pat Closen. He is survived by: his wife Carol of East Peoria; his children, Todd Schmidt (Sheila) of Dubuque, IA and Tracey Fairfield (Zachary) of Washington; his grandchildren, Hailey Dye (Paul), Holden, Olivia Fairfield, Julia, Carter and Megan Schmidt; his great grandchild Carson Dale Dye; his sister Marlene Clark; his pet Retta Belle; and his brothers-in-law, Richard Closen and Eddie Clark.
After a long, hard-fought battle with Alzheimer's, he went peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family.
