He was predeceased by: his parents, Antonio Contreras and Eudosia Hernandez Contreras; his children, Rosita Contreras and Javier "Javi" Contreras; his grandson Christopher Gonzalez; and his brothers, Placido and Roberto Contreras.
He is survived by: his wife Rosa Rangel; and his children, Rosa Cervantes Contreras, Denise Contreras Williams (Scott), Victoria Nappi, Sergio Contreras (Joyce "MJ"), Frank Contreras (Brenda), Berto Contreras, Guadalupe "Peo" Contreras (Tonya), Diana Ackerman (Eric), Sebastian Contreras Jr. (Sean O'Shea) and Joseph Contreras (Trisha). He is also survived by 25 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and many other extended family.
