He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl J. Klapp and Pauline Klapp (Johnson); his children, Edward Lee Klapp and Debra Joyce Klapp; and his siblings, William "Bill" Klapp, Max Klapp, David Klapp, Earlene Harvey and Donna King.
He is survived by: his wife Marilyn Engman of East Galesburg; his children, Steve Klapp of Galesburg, Tricia Adams (Al) of Knoxville, Alison Olinger (Todd) of East Galesburg and Jodi Klapp Eaves of Cottonwood; his daughter-in-law Susan Klapp of Galesburg; and his siblings, Bruce Klapp of Des Moines, Sandy O'Connor (Bob) of Marion, Dee Alexander of Weldon and Toni Ogg (Duane) of Inverness. He is also survived by his children and grandfather to his grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the family for playground equipment at Debbie Klapp Park, Knoxville American Legion, or to the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
