He is survived by: his spouse Helen Louise Spurgeon; his children, Carolyn Susan Hawkins (Neil) of Godfrey and Joseph William Claxton, Jr. of East Alton; his grandchildren, Joseph, Tanor (Heather), Joshua, Tyler Claxton, Jennifer Dunham (Jeremy) and Benjamin Hawkins (Jessica); his great grandchildren, Jaxon Dunham and Brinley Hawkins; and his sister-in-law Rose Beiermann of Bethalto.
