He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Walter Hale and Ethel Marie Hale (Panter); his son Herbert Leighton Hale Jr.; his brother Robert Walter Hale; his sister-in-law Amy Sue Hale (Dodson); his sister Dana Evelyn Dodson (Hale); his brother-in-law Robert Ernest Dodson Jr.; his nephew Herman Taylor Bayless; and also Marjorie Gentile Bayless.

He is survived by: his former wife Norma Jean Hale (Meyers); his wife Sharon Hale (Wrigley); his son Jeff Lee Hale; his grandchildren, Jeff Tyler Hale, Herbert "Bubba" Leighton Hale III and Amanda Nicole Hale; his sisters, Dorothy Ann Bayless (Hale) and Nina Carol Nale (Hale); his brother-in-law John Arnold Nale; and his nieces and nephews, Melissa "Lisa" Bayless, Deanna Dodson, Howard Hink Bayless, Wade Dodson (Sandy), Mike Nale (Leslie), Mark Arnold Nale and John David Nale (Jill). He is also survived by relatives, friends.
