He was predeceased by: his parents, George A. Alvis and Sarah Jane Elizabeth Alvis (Napier); his siblings, Peggy Alvis, George "Bud" Alvis and Marilyn Siefert; and his nephew Doug Wynn.

He is survived by: his wife Dolores Wynn; his children, Kelly Bryan (Larry) of Paducah, KY, Phillip L. Alvis II (Darlene) of Du Quoin, Sara Fisher (Mike) of Du Quoin, Amy Greenwood (Kevin) of Du Quoin and Jubal Alvis (Adrienne) of Du Quoin; his grandchildren, Charlton Bryan, Melissa Bryan, Trey Alvis, Ridge Alvis, Jan Matthews, Michael Matthews, Amber Crain, Zach Atkins, Kristin Hass, Wyatt Greenwood, Kody Greenwood, Klay Greenwood, Garrison Alvis, Jubal Alvis and Avery Alvis; and his sisters, Louise Milam (Bruce) of Du Quoin, Janice Rendelman (Donnie) of Murphysboro and Joanie VanZandt of Du Quoin. He is also survived by fourteen great grandchildren.

Friends may make memorials to Cudgetown Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home.
