He was predeceased by: his parents, Dalphie Smith and Inez Smith (Gray); his wife Charlotte A. Alford; and his sisters, Barbara Cavins and Theresa Zoller.
He is survived by: his children, Charles A. "Chuck" Smith, Jr. (Mary) of Du Quoin, Brenda Harsy (Scott) of Du Quoin and Sandra L. Powell (Tracy) of Edmond, OK; his grandchildren, Nathan Harsy, Ashley Thorpe and Lauren Hobbs of Anthony; his great grandchildren, Isaac Hobbs, Abigail Hobbs and Ethan Hobbs; and his sister Loretta Barrett (Don) of Du Quoin.
