He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Lee and Edith Smith (Smith); his spouse Clara Mae Colp; and his siblings, Donald Smith and Juanita Williams.

He is survived by: his children, Sheri Rogers (Forrest) of Tamaroa, Steve Smith (Cheryl) of O'Fallon, MO and Sam Smith (Gina) of Harrisonburg, VA; his brother Dennie Smith of Jonesboro, IL; his sister-in-law Pat Smith of Cobden, IL; his grandchildren, Charity Rogers, Nikki Vowell, Ethan Rogers, Andrew Smith (Jessica), Courtney Smith, Matt Sumners, Samantha Hughes, Mikey Hughes and Christine Hughes; and his great grandchild Payton Smith.
