He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Olof Nelson and Anna Nelson; his wife Joan Thorp Nelson; his children, Beth Smayda (Greg), Ruth, Karen Anderson (Scott), Donald (John Prusnick) and Karl (Jena); his grandchildren, Michael (Abigail), Kirsten, Katherine Smayda, Joseph (Emily), Stina, Garrett Anderson, Rafe and Linnea Nelson; and his great grandchildren, Felicity, Adrian Smayda and Lucy Anderson.
