He was predeceased by: his parents, Benhardt Bertels and Mary Aljets Bertels; his siblings, Raymond Bertels and Pauline; and his brother-in-law Louis Enke.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Bertels of Dorsey, IL; his children, Jeff Bertels (Melinda) of Dorsey, IL, Tracey Smith of Bunker Hill, Keith Bertels (Ann) of Jefferson City, MO, Karen Fernandez (Joe) of Mt Olive, IL and Sharon Honaker (Steve) of Winona, MO; and his sister-in-law Laurine Bertels of Marine, IL.. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to Emmaus Lutheran Church in Dorsey.
