He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Hartzell and Esther Hartzell (Schossig); his sister Jan Hannah (Mike); and his brother-in-law Rich Mardauss. He is survived by: his sons, Jeremy Hartzell (Kelly) of Raleigh, NC and Jonathan Hartzell (Carrie) of Charlotte, NC; his grandchildren, Maxfield Clayton Hartzell, Ella Marie Hartzell, Henry Yorick Hartzell, Kora Kay Hartzell, Zoeya Camille Rashid and Ilan Scott Rashid; and his sisters, Nina Mardauss and Sara Milligan (Bill).
Memorials may be directed to any Marine Corps or Veteran Association in honor of Major Mark Hartzell.
