He was predeceased by: his wife Penny Horst; his parents, Harold Leonard Horst and Sarah Elizabeth (Linton); his stepfather Leland "Pete" Sweet; and his sister-in-law Sandy Kissee.

He is survived by: his children, Dion Horst (Shanda) of Dixon and Dawn Yocum (Dean) of Dixon; his grandchildren, Kyle Horst (Emilee) and Amber Currens (Travis); his great grandchildren, Madelynn Currens, Hunter Horst, Edyth Currens, Berklee Horst and Kyla Horst; his nephew Dana Horst (Connie) of Montezuma, IA; his sister Marlene Bradshaw; and his mother-in-law Linda Munroe. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
