He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Hackbarth and Ella Hackbarth (Morgan); his son Douglas; his granddaughter Alicia; and his brothers, Vernon, Kenneth (Skeet), Richard (Dick), Harry and Tim.

He is survived by: his wife Rogene; his siblings, Gary Hackbarth (Karen) and Deborah Manon (Steve); and his children, Daniel Hackbarth (Carolyn), Darce Hackbarth, David Hackbarth (Wendy) and Dawn Kanzler (Tom).

Memorials may be directed to the Veterans Memorial Park and Museum in Dixon, IL.
