He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Schertz and Hazel Diegel Schertz; his wife Kathleen Birky; and his sisters, Mary Ann and Marilyn "Jean".
He is survived by: his former wife Joanne Heltsley; his siblings, Denny Schertz of Washington and Rita Watts of Pekin; his children, Rick Schertz (Lisa) of Peoria, Bob Schertz of Wadsworth, Ohio and Heather Schertz (Jay) of Delavan; and his stepchildren, Missy Blanchett of Lincoln and Terry Litwiller (Missy) of Springfield, Ohio.
In Lieu of Flowers, Memorials can be made to the Delavan American Legion Post 362 in Delavan.
