It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Doris Higdon of Delavan, Illinois, born in Hartsburg, Illinois, who passed away on November 6, 2023, at the age of 79, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Lee Newby and Eileen Bruns Newby; and her siblings, Elnora Wilson and Nelson Newby. She is survived by: her husband William Houghton; her children, Ronald Houghton (Cheryl) of Saucier, MS and Susan Whapham (Jay) of Waverly, VA; her grandchildren, Megan Meyer (Rob), Ashton Eubanks (Tyler), Matthew Whapham and Michael Whapham; her great grandchildren, Briggs William Eubanks and Jeremiah Dalton Whapham; her brother Howard Newby of Springfield, IL; her close friend Donald Ahrends; and her sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Gritton of Paxton, Kimberle Newby of Florida, Sharon Newby of Florida and Betty McBryant of Florida.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church in Hartsburg or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
