He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Katherine J. Keays and Harry "Bud" Shull; his pets, Maya and Boosie; his children, Kelly Timmons (Jennie) of Clinton, Joseph Keays (Amanda), Jammelle Resendiz, Amanda Keays of Sullivan and Melissa Keays of Decatur; and his sister Kathy Hadden (Kent) of Mt. Zion. He was also cherished by 12 grandchildren.
