He was predeceased by: his parents, Dwight E. Thornell and Montia Marie Thornell (Cravens); his children, Quentin Thornell, Steven Ray Thornell and Sarah Thornell; his granddaughter Amber Jo Thornell; and his siblings, Edgar Thornell, Sr., Barbara Morlan and Mary Holdman.

He is survived by: his wife Deborah Thornell of Decatur, IL; his children, Patrick Hebdon of Birmingham, AL, Bradley Thornell of Decatur, IL, Christopher Thornell, Sr. (Sarah) of Decatur, IL, Nicholas W. Thornell (Rachel) of Decatur, IL and Jill McCoy (Chelsea II) of Decatur, IL; and his siblings, David Thornell of Minnesota, Billie Thornell of Decatur, IL, Harold Thornell (Gabrielle) of Decatur, IL and Cheryl Rokash (Dan) of Kentucky. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren.
