He was predeceased by: his parents, Julius Gahwiler and Bernice Gahwiler (Dexter); and his siblings, David, Robert (Anita), Gene (Adeline), Richard (MaryAnn), John, Roger and Rosemary Toland (William).

He is survived by: his wife Eulah Mae Hise; his children, Julia Lamb (Scott) and Jamie Gahwiler (Amy) of Decatur; his sister-in-law Bonnie Gahwiler of Springfield; his grandchildren, Grant Gahwiler (Southerlynn Walters), Griffin Gahwiler, Gabrielle Gahwiler, Brittany Young (Zac) and Ashley Wilson (Keith); and his great grandchild Ford Wilson of Decatur.
