He was predeceased by: his grandparents, Charles and Charlene Winchester. He is survived by: his parents, Gregg Winchester and Teresa Dixon (Ratliff); his stepfather Parry Dixon; his brothers, Daniel and Darren Winchester; his sisters-in-law, Christie Sennott Winchester and Amy Winchester; his stepsiblings, Forest Dixon, Crissy Dixon and Maria Lichty; his grandparents, William and Iladeen Ratliff; his nieces, Ella and June; and his nephew Oliver Winchester.

“I've known Derek for many years and worked beside him in the lab. He went on to become a wonderful nurse and was very dedicated to his patients. We spent many hours talking and laughing as well as sharing compassion for those who were sick. I loved Derek like a son and am devastated that he is gone. Rest in peace, my dear friend.
