She was predeceased by: her parents, Robert Leroy and Lois Irene Johnson (Sloan); and her sister Marcena. She is survived by: her husband Curtis Franklin Grubbs; her daughter Yashanya "Sunny" Taylor of Decatur; her son-in-law Jeff Taylor of Moweaqua; her stepchildren, Chris Grubbs (Holly) of Sunnyvale, TX and Carrie Flaniken (Preston) of Gatesville, TX; her grandchildren, Hunter, Jackson Taylor, Wyatt (Emily), Eli Grubbs, Breckole (Sasha), Chad Stark (Amelia) and Ana; and her niece Michelle Lockard (Michael) of Lusby, MD..

Visitation was held on Friday, April 4th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Et Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home (2091 N Oakland Ave, Decatur, IL 62526). A funeral service was held on Monday, April 7th 2025 at 10:00 AM and at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Decatur & Macon County.

“I am so sorry to hear of Dency's passing. I worked with her at RCC years ago and she was one of the sweetest, kindest, and most loved teachers there. She was a beautiful soul and had the most beautiful smile. She treated students, faculty, and staff with warmth, respect and kindness. Everyone loved her. It was a joy just to be around her. The last time I saw her was when a group of retired RCC staff met for lunch. It was a real treat to see her. She was a great lady.”
