He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Charles Franklin and Irene Marie Shonk (Mock); his wife Robin Lyn Bell; his children, John Wagner of Wapella, Noah Shonk of Decatur, IL, Heather Shonk-Davenport (Chris) and Jamie Wagner-Brinkley (Joshua) of Decatur, IL; and his grandson Grant Davenport.

“I wish to express my condolences to the Family of David Shonk. However, I cannot write a sad, tearful response because it would be an injustice to the legacy of Dave Shonk. Donk made every dull, boring. lifeless school day a blast. His humor allowed us to see who we really were and not to take life's challenges too seriously. Most of the funniest moments of the Marshall High School Class of 1972 are rooted to Dave. He was a true Bare Moon Boy and I'm sure that he and Doc are havin' a ball !!!”
