Melvin M. Toennies Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Melvin M. Toennies of Damiansville, Illinois, who passed away on January 10, 2025 at the age of 84. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Melvin M. Toennies to pay them a last tribute.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert and Mary; his grandson Drew Toennies; his siblings, Alfred Toennies (Pat), Dolores "Dot" Goestenkors (Chuck), Albin "Bones" Toennies and Tom Toennies; his parents-in-law, Victor and Loretta Billhartz; and his brothers, Louis Wobbe, Robert Foppe, Michael Bair, Arnold "Roscoe" Billhartz (Nancy), Victor Billhartz Jr. and Tom Oyen.
He is survived by: his wife Alice Billhartz; his children, Tim Toennies (Melissa), Andy Toennies (Lisa), Jean Docter, JoLynn Wieter (John) and Terese Toennies; his grandsons, Patrick and Christopher Toennies; his children, Evan Toennies, Jacob, Mason, Zachary, Joseph Wieter and Alayna Docter; his stepgrandchildren, Tiffany Cruz (Joe), Zachary (Brooke Presson) and Austin Pesek (Mariah Miller); his stepgreat-grandchildren, Raegan Cruz and Tatum Pesek; and his sisters, Ange Wobbe, Darlene Toennies (Rich), Elaine Foppe, Marti Billhartz, Loretta Bair, Virginia Oyen and Teresa Gross. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation was held on Saturday, January 18th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:45 AM at the St. Damian Catholic Church (1 W Main St, Damiansville, IL 62215). A funeral Mass was held on Saturday, January 18th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Damian Church, Mater Dei Catholic High School, or the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
