He was predeceased by: his wife Patricia Ann (Heizer); his parents, Albert Whelan and Anna Whelan (Dieckmann-Jaenke); his grandchildren, Erin K. Whelan and Jack Whelan; his siblings, Arnold, Eileen Kelley Jr., Leroy and Mildred (Dehne); and his siblings-in-law, Walter Kelley Jr., Oliver Dehne, Roger Kruse, Freeda and Rosalie.
He is survived by: his children, Michael Whelan (Janice), James Whelan (Vicki), Jan Walsh (Bill) and Gene Whelan (Pam); his grandchildren, Shannon Haney (Ted), Julie Klazynski (Phil), Carrie Egizi (Tony), Andy Whelan (Cheryl), Matt Whelan, Lori Higgins (Bryan), Liz Ramey, Byron Walsh (Katie), Jared Walsh (Sarah), Dylan Walsh (Sarah), Madison Whelan, Savanna Whelan (Anthony DeVore) and Sam Whelan; his siblings, Allen, Gerald and Nancy Kruse; and his sisters-in-law, Mable Whelan, Dorothy Heizer and Marie Heizer. He is also survived by 20 great grandchildren.
