He was predeceased by: his parents, Andrew Francis and Rozalia Ann Mitan (Jarczyk); his wife Shirley Ann Mitan (Weber); and his brothers, Ted Mitan, Alex (Mary Mitan), Joseph Mitan and Michael Mitan.

He is survived by: his children, Michael Mitan (Deborah) of Collinsville, Mark Mitan (Laurie) of Mason, Steven Mitan (Lori) of Collinsville and Susan Wilder (Stephen) of Troy, Illinois; his grandchildren, Ian Dance (Andrea), Doriana Hildebrant (Zachary), LeAnn Mitan, Matthew Mitan, Elizabeth Mitan, Noah Mitan, Jonah Mitan, Ezra Wilder and Shirley Wilder; his great grandchildren, Eden, Carson, MacKenzie and Issac; his siblings, Kasimier Mitan and Wanda Mitan; and his sisters-in-law, Glenda "Candy" Mitan and Grace Mitan. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
