He was predeceased by: his parents, Ervin Koonce and Gladys Koonce; his brother Leon Koonce; his parents-in-law, Robert John DeLoach Sr. and Christine DeLoach; and his brother-in-law Carl Brown.
He is survived by: his wife Rosetta Koonce; his son Herbert Jr. Koonce (Gabrielle) of Collinsville; his grandchildren, Gavin and Janiece Burress (James); his great grandchildren, Kaiden, Ava and Reese; his siblings, Wendell Koonce of Springfield, IL, Barbara Evans of Augusta, GA and Sharon Pettit (Tony) of Springfield, IL; and his siblings-in-law, Dorothy Sharp, Myrtle DeLoach, Mamie Jean DeLoach, Henrietta Hayes (William), Selena DeLoach, Dora Faye Saleh (Hassen), Sharon DeLoach and Robert John DeLoach. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
