He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Thomas and Ellen Vaughn (Reynolds); his daughter Theresa Ryan (Mike) of Diamond; his daughter-in-law James "Sonny"; his daughter Clair; and also Linda Vaughn.
He is survived by: his grandchildren, Douglas Taylor of Des Plaines, Melissa Taylor of Wisconsin, Michael J. Ryan (Ann) and Nicholas Ryan; his great grandchildren, Clayton John, Elam, Story Paige, Storm and Jordan; and his friends, Steve Frye, Sheri Frye of Alabama, Robin Cirrencione and Tom Cirrencione of Diamond.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Vernon's memory to the Manteno Veteran's Home or to the family for their distribution to a charity of their choosing.
