It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Melvin August Smith of Coal City, Illinois, who passed away on January 30, 2023, at the age of 85, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, August Smith and Harriet Smith (Persak); his aunt Helen Persak; and his brother Marvin Smith. He is survived by: his wife Elaine Hibler; his children, Greg Smith (Janet) of Grayslake, Chris Smith of Orland Park and Michael Smith (Faith) of Trevor, Wisconsin; his grandchildren, Tyler Smith (Brittany), Jake Smith, Alex Smith, Paige Smith, Brooke Smith and Alaina Smith; his sister Jean Bohnstengel (late Phil) of Pasco, Washington; his brother-in-law Ron Hibler (Jan) of Minooka; and his cousin Pamela Bassett (David) of Maryland. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Military honors are scheduled at 1:30 p.m.
