He was predeceased by: his brother Frank Opalecky Jr.. He is survived by: his sons, David Opalecky (Christine) and Ronald Opalecky (Joni); his grandchildren, Kimberly DeGregorio (Timothy), Kevin Opalecky, Michael Opalecky (Emilie), Matthew Opalecky (Buerkley) and Jennifer Wilson (John); his great grandchildren, Marisa, Dominic, Kaylee, Penelope and Alexia; his brother Charles Opalecky; and his wife Juanita.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Lou's honor can be made to Lurie Children's Hospital.
