He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Gaines and Lois Gaines; his sister Joy Paynter; his granddaughter Kayla Jo Hyser; his son-in-law Steve Wheeler; and his parents-in-law, Elmer Weber and Patricia Weber.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Ann Gaines of Cherry Valley, Illinois; his children, David Gaines II of Rockford, Illinois, June Roberts (Brian) and Angela Coleman (Bruce) of Cherry Valley, Illinois; his grandchildren, Kendra Hyser, Miranda Corcoran, Alaina Coleman and Brandon Gaines; his great grandchildren, Brayden, Braxton, Brody and Ashton; and his siblings, Frank Henn (Pamela) of Missouri, Brian Henn (Diane) of El Reno, Oklahoma, Toni of California and Dottie Schrieber (Keith) of Denver.
