He was predeceased by: his sons, Ernesto Jr. and Richard; and his brothers, John Leal, Eliberto Leal and Eleazar Leal.
He is survived by: his spouse Irma Castillo of Elsa; his children, Cynthia Massey (David) of Helotes, Johnnie Leal (Laura) of San Antonio, Denise Holgado (David) of San Antonio and Ricky Leal (Diana) of San Antonio; his daughter-in-law Linda Browning Leal of Charleston; his grandchildren, Ernesto Leal III, Leah (Jim), Michael, Meghan, Navy, Zachary Leal (Erica), Abigail Leal, Marissa Leal, Samuel Holgado and Angel Grace Holgado; his great grandchildren, Nick, Ross, Ella, Emily Lanman and Declan Leal; and his siblings, Cristela Silva of Weslaco, Mary Leal of Weslaco, Beatriz Rodriguez of Weslaco, Frank Hernandez of League City and George Hernandez of Fort Worth. He is also survived by husband and beloved father.
Ernesto T. Leal passed away after an eight-year battle against Alzheimer's disease on September 4, 2018, at the age of 91.
