He was predeceased by: his parents, Glenn Canfield and Ruth Canfield (Kestel); and his siblings, Glenn and Juanita. He is survived by: his spouse Noralyn Raino; his children, Joel Alan Canfield (Melissa Griswold), Lynn Canfield (Jesse Brown), John Canfield (Maureen O'Donnell) and Dr. Jeffrey Canfield; and his grandchildren, Masey Canfield, Zoe Canfield, Xanthe Brown, Kieran Hein and Maggie Hein. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in John's name to the donor's choice of charity.
