He was predeceased by: his parents, Leo Gaines and Thelma Henderson Gaines; and his children, Charles, Robert, Janice and Peggy.
He is survived by: his wife Charlotte Miller; his children, Jerry Henderson and Tina Zook of Rantoul; and his siblings, Lloyd Gaines of Noble, Jack Gaines of Champaign and Shirley Crum of Urbana. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren.
