He was predeceased by: his parents, Nolan Smith and Helen Smith (Williams); his wife Rosalie Gale Hellmyer; his brothers, Gary and Bob Smith; and his nephew Brian Smith.
He is survived by: his children, J. T. Smith (Amanda) of Centralia, Tina Smith of Kalona, Lisa Smith (Scott Hanson), Cheryl Smith McNalley (Scott) of Carterville, Tammy Goss (Jim) of Iowa City, Anthony L. Vest (Penny) of Centralia and Mark Vest of Centralia; his grandchildren, B. J. Smith, Macie Smith, Jerzi Smith, Jaile Smith, Braydin Smith, Payton Smith, Reagan Smith, Michael Swickard, Mark Swickard, Kendall Smith, Kelsey Slay, Taylor Albright, Jimmy Goss, Mackenzie Goss, Brandon Cook (Tiphani), Dylan Cook, Laci Vest and Mark Vest, Jr.; and his brother Ron Smith (Patricia) of Centralia. He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren.
