He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Shanafelt and Edna Friedrich Shanafelt; his wife Margie Faye Stater; his children, Stephen Ray Shanafelt and Nancy Faye Shanafelt; his daughter-in-law Kathy Shanafelt; his sister Rosalie Wilkinson; and his sister-in-law Shirley McRill.
He is survived by: his daughter Susan Lynn Johnston (James) of Joliet; his granddaughters, Kristen Merriman (Jason), Kimberly Ann Pokrajac (Ron) and Kelly Kohrt (Pete) of Plainfield; his great grandchildren, Jacob, Zachary Merriman and McKenzie Pokrajac; and his nieces and nephews, Peggy Amason, Mary Lustig, Richard Wilkinson and Michael McRill.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Donald's honor to First Christian Church Disciples of Christ living memorial fund, Shriners Hospital, or Masonic Temple – Centralia.
