He was predeceased by: his parents, Douglas Sr. Hess and Emma Hess; his son Joseph P. Hess; his parents-in-law, Paul and Mary Behrendt; and his siblings, Patricia Booth and Paul Hess.
He is survived by: his wife Judith Hess; his children, Douglas III Hess (Jennifer), Diane Kinsch (Kenneth) and Bryan Hess (Dawn); his grandchildren, Stephanie Taylor (Daniel), Michael Hess (Jessica), Jennifer Moran (Brian), Elizabeth Hess (Daniel Throgmorton), Christopher Hess, Andrew Dahl (Lindy), Megan Fleming (Taylor), Ryan Hess (Amanda Phillis), Rebecca Hess, Kaitlyn Kinsch, Kenna Kinsch and Ansley Wells; his great grandchildren, Connor, Henry, Archer, Lyla, Lainey, Waylon and Judith; his siblings, Brian Hess (Carole), Mary Smith and Judith Hess; and his sister-in-law Bernadine Hess. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
